Another incident with my chain.

While leaving work today exiting out of a freeway u-turn I started revvving up to get onto the highway. Well something hit me on my back, I had just removed something from the tail section so I thought my seat came off. I look back and my tail cover is still there. I do notice that my chain is laying on my leg and passenger peg. “Damn” I think as I continue coasting. I initially thought that the chain was just too loose and came off. Upon running out of coasting inertia I inspect the damage. The clip type master link had popped off and wasn’t to be found. I pushed the bike to a bike shop that thankfully was still open. After searching many part bins they found the link that would work for me. The owner of the shop even help me install the replacement. If I ever buy a new Euro bike it certainly will be from them.

Moral of story is three fold:
One, clip master links suck (use rivet types only). Two, using a specialty chain to save a buck is a bad idea. And three Euro Sport Cycle is a kick ass shop in my book.

Fort Worth Police Department using Stalker LZ-1 lidar

Just yesterday while on the road I noticed a Fort Worth LEO using a Stalker laser speed detector. I didn’t believe my friend a few months ago when he claimed lidar was being used by FWPD. Now you know.

Thanks Guys of Lidar for their laser detector guide.

With warm weather comes awesome riding.

Sunday was a crazy day. It started off as a mild jog through twisties. The day progressed and we were invited to ride with one of DFW’s best stunters through twities; at first I thought “How fun is it going to be riding twisites with a known stunter?” Well it was stupid fun. He walked away from me in the twisites; and the only reason I caught up at one point was a train, literally. Then we got on the interstate and my bike might as well had been a bicycle; I didn’t hear from my friend that kept up until 90 minutes later. He had a good story of the events that unraveled. That experience was humbling. I am looking forward to my track days this year, 12 total. I want a faster bike. The SV will be paid for later this month and the savings for next one begins (no full coverage next time around.) This next bike will be one that I originally was looking into 10 months ago. I’m leaning to the smoothness of an I4 this time; and retiring the SV as a track bike if a friend doesn’t buy it in May.

Reverting back to the geekery days of highschool.

My interest in Linux has been reignited. I recently purchased a Neo Freerunner, its a completely open source phone (hardware and software.) It runs Linux, there are many distros just for this phone. Here are some of the hardware specs.

  • High resolution touch screen 2.84” (43mm x 58mm) 480×640 pixels
  • 128MB SDRAM memor
  • 256 MB integrated flash memory (expandable with microSD or microSDHC card)
  • microSD slot supporting up to 8GB SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) cards (Supported microSD cards)
  • Internal GPS module
  • Bluetooth
  • 802.11 b/g WiFi
  • 400Mhz ARM processor
  • 2 3D accelerometers
  • Tri-band GSM and GPRS

It was much easier to install Linux to make adjustments on the phone. I started resizing the partitions for a dual boot setup. I booted into Windows after setting up installing Ubuntu, the Windows partition became corrupt and I didn’t want to mess with it. So I just deleted the Windows partition all together. I’ve been using Wine to run the few proprietary applications on the machine. A week later I switched to Debian linux as it’s more developer friendly.

I’ve installed all the distros for the Freerunner and decided SHR is the most mature and has the most potential. I’m running an unstable daily release from December that has the GPS working fairly efficiently (read: without needing to getting into the CLI to start any daemons.)
