And deeper into the courier trap.

Today I bid on a internal job for a full time delivery position. And yes I suppose all jobs are internal but this is within the station. More money and hours, I love it.

Am I loosing that libertinism?

There was a time when I drove cars 40 MPH through parks, provoked kids in Mustangs to the point of physical confrontation, and committed countless felonies all in the name of adrenaline. But recently I find myself apprehensive on the highway when it rains, wanting to buy a house, and pulling my blog in concern for loosing my job for "self incrimination through blog documentation of unsafe acts." This makes me think I’m being a pansy. WTH?

Automotive Machine for the win!

They fixed the problem with the middle stripped bolt hole on my KA24DE head. They even did it while I waited; which is awesome. Heli-coil for the win.

Bloody Hell! {British Accent Obviously}

As I suspected when I took the head off the car the first time, I noticed a few thread came out of the middle sprocket’s bolt hole. I mentioned it to the machine shop before having it resurfaced, they said not to worry. Well now there is no thread left. It happened while in the process of assembling the timing chain components. Started the bolt by hand, used it a wrench it felt a little strange, at about 20 ft/lbs of force it became easy to tighten.

This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About.

I drove to Oklahoma last night. Left right after getting off of work. I was going to pickup a set of used KTS Coilovers. I heard that the weather was bad both from the seller and one of the semi-truck drivers from work. I thought "How excellent." I hate driving in the rain on the highway, on the streets its pure fun but going above 60mph on wet road with idiots is nothing less than intense anxiety without the pleasure of epinephrine to take the edge off. On the way there I almost bit it once due to the road transitioning from smooth concrete to rough asphalt and a pool of standing water; that was 90 minutes from my destination; I never really came back down off that stress. Also I ran out of washer fluid which is a problem when the cars passing you are kicking up road salt. It was exciting driving for two miles with hardly any visibility through the windshield, I pulled over at the first gas station cleaned the window and got some fluid.

I finally got there and we shot the shit after exchanging our wares. It was cold and so I suggested we continue at IHOP; he suggested his house. Pancakes or RB powered S13 (totaled from an accident), RB for the win. It was 11 miles out of the way but I figured it would be worth it. We passed over a bridge on the way there. We pull up and there is a S13 there (not totaled), "WTF I thought?" There was a house and large metal building on the property. He starts walking toward the metal building talking about the his S13; so I figure we are going to check that out first; expecting a cold garage type inside. He opens the door to gun shots and grenades going off via the 50 some odd inch wide screen with surround made possible by an PS3. The owner of the S13 (non-totaled) "Die *censored*ers!" Its a heated garage with a game room that has a partition to the automotive portion. We walk to that and there she is, the S13 with previous Silvia front end powered by an RB25DET. It was a sad sight. They were very hospitable and offered pizza and beer.

At 1AM I decided it was time to go before I got too tired to make the journey back. As I’m back tracking those escorted 11 miles I come up on that bridge. There are a few emergency vehicles and two wreckers. "Shit" I think, "I don’t know an alternate route. I totally guessed the way here and some how got it right." So I park the car and walk toward the police officer. I don’t think he picked up that I wasn’t local so he was a little annoyed that I was out of my car. "Can I help you?" he said without patience. "I’m not familiar with the area…" I said, he gave that look of "And…?" "Is this going to clear up or do I need to find another way?" probably not the best phrasing on my part. He responded "Yea just give it a minute. You can go sit in your car now. Oh yea and be careful when you cross the bridge." So I waited about 20 minutes for it to clear up. I start going and get on this 1/8 mile long bridge, which doesn’t seem like much but when you have confirmed there is a nice sheet of ice on it by spiking the gas and just spinning you are a little concerned. And this is only elevated when the wrecker who just pulled one of the cars out of a ditch is starting to slide sideways it becomes the longest bridge you have transversed. The wreckers were going toward the highway so I could watch them to see if they slowed down for any of the other bridges.

Bridge of death:

I finally found the interstate; but the problem with living in Texas most of your adult life you tend to be familiar with how the civil engineers think in that area; that is the entrance and exit rams make since. But when you travel to another area of the country the engineers design things slightly different. Which in my exhausted and stressed state hindered my ability to immediately adapt. I drove for about 30 minutes before the next issue. It started raining plus it was freezing outside so my windshield started icing over, that was exciting. It wasn’t until I go into Texas that the freeze was over and the highways were made of concrete rather than asphalt, so the speeding resumed and eventually made it back.Tips: Classical music is excellent for keeping your mind active, 101.1 WRR can be reached about 20 miles into OK and 90.1 was used for the remainder of the trip. Thank the gods for actually playing orchestras last night as an opera would of killed me.

Also I thought; Why the hell would a civic engineer design highways to use overpasses relative to the exit when underpasses would reduce the cost of having ‘salters’ out when it freezes not to mention the lower traffic on bridges. Oh well what the hell ever, I’m tired and I’m going to try back to sleep as the fornicators have finally left apartment.

Updates.

Well its been a while since the last update. I’m considering buying a house after the lease is up for this apartment which is will be up in 6 months and 2 days as of this posting. I’m not terribly fond of the neighbors I share walls with or that sort of thing. Internal tension has died down and we still have our peeves but the clashing has been greatly reduced. Shane is on his way to becoming an alcoholic as he is doing straight shots of 190 proof grain alcohol (aka Everclear).

I can finally see the end of the tunnel on the maintenance for the 240SX (this time around.) She has been down since November 3rd. I’m so ready to start driving her again. Its getting hot outside and the Saturn just doesn’t cut it. I’m also chatting with someone in Oklahoma about a set of KTS coilovers. They were originally purchased from SPL Parts so I will be getting there practically legendary service and some really good coilovers. Hopefully for pretty cheap too; road trip coming on.

Oh and I do want to rant for a brief moment. I went for about 3 weeks without working on the 240SX it was cold and I was working both morning and night at UPS. So I didn’t have the energy or motivation to go over to my friend’s house to work on the car (plus its a 6 mile drive to the garage). So it sat untouched. Well my friend rents out rooms in his house. A gear head started renting one of the rooms and garage shortly after this period where I wasn’t working on the car. Being a gear head he had lots and lots of car parts and tools that would soon consume the garage. The problem with that is my car, a table with bolts laying out, and car parts of mine were already consuming 70% of the garage. He has about 2 bays worth of stuff (thats without a car mind you) to move in. So I found my table, bolts, and all the parts broken down and sorted into boxes. They were sort into boxes "bolts", "tools", and "parts" so needless to say I was pissed.I’ve since sorted out them into clusters of where these bolts might/should go. When I start reassembling I will know for sure. And the only bolts I’m unsure of at this point are what I’m going to call secondary. As in they aren’t in the engine so if they are wrong they won’t cause a huge issue. So the intake box is about it. Everything is bagged.
/end rant

Also I might be getting a second job to supplement my income as my hours are getting cut back at UPS and I need to save up to pay for that house.
