For those of you betting on the day I would have a warrant out for my arrest, that day is today.

I have a warrant out for my arrest. Turns out the court date for a ticket I received last year was mailed to the wrong address. Obviously I didn’t show up to court on the day I was summoned for, so my ticket went to warrant status. I found this out after the officer who pulled me over early Sunday morning handed me four citations. I’m assuming the officer’s shift was almost over and he didn’t want to do the paper work or thought I wasn’t a threat to the public but he decided to let me go. Although he did feel it was neccessary to use all the space available for citations he could think of, which included: no insurance, registration sticker was past due, speeding (like that wasn’t obvious), and my favorite of them all… license plate obstruction.

Update (01-29-2007): I got the warrant cleared. I spoke with the judge and she went over the records to find they mailed the court notice to my old address; even though I had told the officer my address had changed and he cited that on the ticket. Clerical error for the win.

Teacher proof ringtone?

Well it seems some ingenious/annoyed young people have took lemons and made lemon aide. “A Welsh security company developed [a] tone to help shopkeepers disperse young people loitering in front of their stores while leaving adults unaffected. The company called its product the “Mosquito.” It seems some students have used this technology on their mobile phones to receive audible notification of text messages during class without being detected by their teachers/professors.

I originally found this article here. And here is an mp3 of the 17 kilohertz noise (in case you wanted to check your hearing). I might get around to convertering it to a smaller and cell phone compatible size/format (but probably not).

Edit / Follow up (less than an hour later):
I found this wave generator, a 42 year old with a lot of time (no offense Alec if you follow the href referrer. As you might note, I have the same problem.), and a site that seems to be geared towards students putting great effort into evading their high school teachers.

A 240SX filled weekend.

This weekend has been 240SX packed for me. Someone I met about 6 months ago gave me a call on Wednesday of last week and asked if I could help him out of a bind. His automatic transmission gave out and wanted me to swap it over to a manual. I honestly don’t know how you screw up an automatic transmission but he did it. I already knew a junk yard that had a whole 5 speed 240 so I agreed to do it for a price. A price that was only elevated due to doing it on such short notice. I received the car Friday night and was completed by Sunday at noon, all without assistance. Shane who usually helps me out with this sort of thing had to work as I didn’t give enough advance warning. I’m getting more proficient at it.

After I was complete with his swap I pulled my car into the garage and started to tear that down. On Friday I received an Energy Suspension master bushing kit which I would have preferred to do the same day but money overrides fun sometimes. I replaced the front tension rod and the front sway bar bushings in about two hours. They were the easiest to replace and the tension rod definitely needed it (as per the buyer’s inspection list I received from the third potential buyer). I wanted to get a feel on the difference it would make just with those two sub kits would make. It was phenomenal, the steering was much tighter, the nose didn’t dive under hard braking. I had a grin on my face for the entire test drive. The joy and confidence of driving the 240SX has finally arrived. Watch out fellow motorist.

A Linksys WRT54G with a 512MB SD Card, Serial Com, GPS, and linux daemons; is this thing from hell?

As I was struck with boredom while waited for my 240SX to sell. I was looking for a short project to pass my time. As most of my computer related adventures are short lived I sourced that as the start point. I found myself stumbling back onto WRT54G modding, I had previously uploaded a third party firmware to my version 2.2 WRT54G router and used it daily to patched my neighbors wifi connection directly to my local LAN with a certain level of satisfaction. I did this a few years/months back when Linksys just released the source code for the firmware used on the device. Script kiddies and senior programmer’s alike found themself tweaking the code. I found these earlier stages of the firmware development buggy and unreliable due to the lack of strong testing. I strayed away after I found a fairly stable third party firmware with enough functionality for my liking. I was curious to see the advancement that had been made with WRT modding, I was flabbergasted with all the new mods that could be done to the WRT. This one particular mod I came across was a hardware mod to solder a Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMediaCard (MMC) right onto some unused General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) ports of the WRT’s circuit board. I thought it would be simple enough, I mean it was only 6 points to solder. Well my first attempt at modifying the board was unsuccessful, or at least I couldn’t compile the driver or get one to load.
